Who we are

Student Leaders

Rangitīkei College’s Pouwhenua Te Koranga, our core purpose, is striving towards higher things. This is something that all staff and students regularly put into practice. We are a kura where students feel encouraged to step outside of their own comfort zones, try new things and to not be afraid to make mistakes along the way. We understand that success itself comes in many forms and to be successful, we need to establish goals and work towards them on an ongoing basis.

We are proud to be a school that is always open to new initiatives and ideas. We take pride in our achievements in the fields of academia, sports and culture and we are taught how we can REAP the benefits of our own hard work.

We also learn that hard work is something that requires dedication, time and commitment. As a Head Prefect this year, this is something that I have had to remember to take on board with me when supporting my own peers and actioning new ideas.

A highlight of serving in my role this year has been hosting our weekly Monday morning assemblies where I get to interact with my peers in an inclusive and engaging environment, share new projects that the Prefect team is working on such as our successful fundraiser and school-wide lunch that we held on Pink Shirt Day, and to hear reports back from other students who have been stepping up in the wider community themselves through co-curricular activities and leadership opportunities. Our assemblies are a testament to the hard mahi that many of us all put into our own learning.

It gives me an enormous sense of privilege to be able to serve Rangitīkei College in the role that I have been given. Also, though, I consider myself to be very fortunate to have had the strenuous amounts of support from my own peers and staff through the journey as well.

As Head Prefects, we have the privilege of representing our kura. We organise school events, welcome new students, and represent our school at community events. We are also a voice for the students.

One of the things I appreciate about Rangitikei College is its small size. This is because it makes it easier to get to know everyone and build a stronger, more supportive environment. Having new students in our kura brings fresh perspectives; they can bring new ideas and experiences to the school.

At Rangitikei College, we look after our new students by having a Whakawhanaungatanga prefect who will make you feel welcome and comfortable. As Head Prefects, we will offer guidance to you, our new students, to ensure you feel connected to your new school community.
